The ocean calls to us all – a timeless promise of light breezes, invigorating sunlight, wispy clouds, blue waters, foamy caps, soft sand, and new memories.
The Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, Thailand fulfills these promises, and awards its guests with magnificent tropical coastline, a stunning elevated ocean view, and an experience that will leave you wondering how soon you can return.
Getting There and Arrival
Koh Samui is reached easily by a short flight from Bangkok, where we were collected by a luxury sedan, complete with refreshingly frosty hand towels, chilled bottled water, and local sweet treats.
Guests are ushered through an impressive Thai greeting space at an impossibly elevated point of the island. Quite spectacular.
Accommodations
The Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, Thailand offers a number of suite and villa types, as we most enjoyed a sublime Premier One-Bedroom Pool Villa – luxury appointments, sumptuous tub with views and views, floor-to-ceiling windows; all punctuated by an expansive mocha-colored deck with plunge pool. Wow!
Residences
The resort also offers a variety of residential villas for both purchase and rental (short or long term, depending upon the owner’s preferences). The villas are positioned prominently throughout the property, featuring sumptuous appointments and amenities; including some fantastic luxury pools. The Water – Beach, Pools and Architecture
Water is the elemental heartbeat of The Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, Thailand – elevated ocean views, white beaches, a luxurious beachfront infinity pool, exquisite plunge pools, and elegant water features that fill the foreground of the guests’ views.
The Beach
The property features vast coastline, divided into a few areas for guests to explore and relax, including a main area, a private beach, and an intimate coastal area with private dining.
The Beachfront Infinity Pool
The resort’s signature and stunning Beachfront Infinity Pool offers guests a grand rectangular pool that hugs the beach, creating the sense that you are swimming in the ocean – with of course a full staff at the ready to provide anything you need! Simply striking, and between the daytime ocean views and the radiant sunsets, you’ll find yourself daydreaming of being deserted on this island.
Our Private Plunge Pool
Private Plunge Pools are a rarity, even among luxury properties; but not at The Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, Thailand. I have traveled all over the world and visited many of the most luxurious resorts, and I have never seen more Private Plunge Pools than those at this resort. It’s quite something. It certainly appears that every accommodation includes its own swimming space as sumptuous watery cubes dot the inclined jungle landscape; and we availed ourselves of its refreshment every free moment.
If pressed, the moments of quiet reflection in our Private Plunge Pool are the moments I will remember the most – and of course the cover photo for this article of my beautiful wife. These are the moments that symbolize a traveler’s reason for leaving home – and the timeless gifts that await.
Water Architecture and Features
Water abounds, even when guests are not at the beach or in a pool. At the top area of the property at the dining and departure areas, water features continually appear, filling your foreground and connecting the spaces to your views of the horizon. I’ve never seen water used in such elegant and inventive ways.
Dining
Delectable, fresh and inventive cuisine abounds on property, through a number of different Dining options. The resort’s signature dining space is the impressive Koh Thai Kitchen and Bar, where we enjoyed the majority of our meals. The scenery, views, variety of dishes, and superlative service exceed expectations. The experience is punctuated by a supremely delightful brunch, which you will see some of the artful dishes below!
CoCoRum
The dining option at the Beachfront Infinity Pool is the sublime CoCoRum, a comfy, elegant space that faces the pool and runs entirely parallel to it. Guests may relax for cocktails and snacks, in addition to enjoying a tasting menu in the evening.
Rum Vault
Just outside of CoCoRum is the property’s famous Rum Vault, home to some of the rarest and tastiest rums in the world – in your own private tasting space!
Spa
The resort’s Spa emphasizes wellness, healing, and incorporates lush local ingredients and signature characteristics of Thai culture into its wide variety of inventive offerings such as energizing massages, Thai stretching, acupressure, reflexology, cocooning, and scrubs and wraps.
I enjoyed a phenomenal Kala Coconut massage, which the treatment rooms are located deep in the heart of the property among thick sets of tall palm trees and jungle vegetation; creating a penetrating canopied peacefulness.
Scuba on the Coral Reef
The resort offers a number of Ocean Activities, including watersports, water bikes and fishing. The waters surrounding the property are also home to vibrant coral reefs, which are part of a Coral Conservation Project. One of the resort’s in-house marine biologist’s (Benji!) took us out to scuba and view the coral reef up close! Absolutely incredible experience to see and learn about the types of coral in the area.
Yoga with a View
The resort features an in-house Yogi and an absolutely breathtaking elevated Yoga studio, which is a must-visit. Early in the morning, the only sounds are the trees swaying in the wind, and the birds singing.
Singing Bowls Relaxation
We were most fortunate to visit while Muayad Najemeddin of Be Wellness was visiting the resort. Muayad is a Singing Bowls Practitioner, which is the practice of using a specially crafted bowl in meditations, religious practices, and other spiritual purposes. The session was quite enlightening and tranquil, and we enjoyed it so much that we purchased our own singing bowl!
Muay Thai!
Near the top of the property, we had the chance to experience an actual Muay Thai training session! So cool!
Closing Thoughts
Each time we visit, the ocean promises renewal, serenity, a new universe of memories of water washing over your feet, and the sun slipping below a blue horizon.
So jump on a plane to Koh Samui, check into the Four Seasons, and slide into your plunge pool. Beyond the thick palms, the white sand gives way to an ocean of possibilities; and you will discover the beauty of profound stillness.
