Luxury in Tahiti – The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort

“Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us, or we find it not” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

At (or near) the top of everyone’s travel bucketlist is a visit to Bora Bora, and with good reason, as Bora Bora in French Polynesia is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful places on the planet.  There are an abundance of resorts to visit in Bora Bora, but no visit is complete without a trip to The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort.

Getting There

After flying to Papeete, Tahiti, you’ll take a second flight to Bora Bora (about 35-40 minutes), where you’ll find a St. Regis Bora Bora Resort representative who will guide you to one of their private boats. The boat ride is about 15 minutes. Try to arrive during daylight hours so you can fully take in the sights. You’ve never seen water so clear as you view Mount Otemanu rising high in the center of Bora Bora.

Accommodations

The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort features a staggering array of luxury accommodations dispersed over its 44 acres – 89 overwater and beach villas. The majority of the villas are of the exceedingly popular overwater variety, and some also include private whirlpools. There are a wide variety of villa classifications, depending upon your choice of location on property, which includes a vast lagoon, powdery-white sand beaches, all framed by the majestic Mount Otemanu.

The Property

The property is impressive and expansive, beginning with the dramatic entry. My apologies, I had some challenges with the light.  🙂

The property’s main pool, overlooking the beach and ocean, is spectacular. Quite something.

Weddings

The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort is renowned for its standing as a world-class Wedding & Honeymoon destination. The property offers a large variety of Wedding Options and Amenities, including an array of picture-perfect locations for ceremony and images, Suggested Wedding Celebrations, Onsite Wedding Planners, and the only Onsite Bridal Boutique in Bora Bora – which we had the opportunity to visit. Spa

The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort features the world-class Miri Miri Spa by CLARINS, which overlooks the property’s famous and sublime Lagoonarium, which is filled with fish and ocean life, ideal for snorkeling.

Dining

The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort features a stellar array of Dining Options, including its signature offering Lagoon by Jean Georges, Sushi Take, Far Niente Ristorante, and Aparima Bar.

Lagoon

Lagoon is expertly steered by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and the restaurant is positioned toward the front of the property, breathtakingly resting entirely over water, oceanlife teeming below in the calm aqua waters. A light wind dusted from left to right across the dining deck. I’ve never dined in a more spectacular or luxurious setting.

Effusive thanks first to Lagoon’s General Manager Pierre-Marie for such a divine experience. This was without question the best meal we enjoyed in Tahiti, and one of the greatest meals I’ve ever experienced. Pierre-Marie’s staff is over-the-top sensational, including our remarkable server Lucie. We enjoyed Ginger Margaritas, Black Pepper Octopus, Tuna, Scallop Sashimi, punctuated by Tiare-scented moist towels, and finished with Sorbet and Warm Chocolate Souflee. Beyond extravagant.

Even if you do not stay at The St. Regis, make certain you charter a boat and experience Lagoon. A remarkable dining venue.

Closing Thoughts

Emerson’s thoughts on travel resonate with me, as I hope they do you. Traveling the world and seeing beautiful places forever changes who we are and how we see the world. The beauty of The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort exists both in the place itself, but more importantly, in the hearts and minds of those who have had the pleasure and fortune of experiencing it.

So, whether it’s next year, five years, or twenty years from now, check Bora Bora off your travel bucketlist, and check into The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort. Hang your feet over your villa’s deck, commit your view of Mount Otemanu to memory, and order a bottle of wine at Lagoon. You’ll have more than enough beauty to carry away.

Thanks so very much to everyone at the St. Regis Bora Bora Resort, especially to Pierre-Marie, Celine, Laura and Lucie on property. I would also like to thank Celine for making this visit possible, and for the use of some of your high resolution images!

Please take note that the hotel welcomed me as a special media guest, but that my opinions are, as always, entirely my own.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to read this article, and happy dining and traveling!
