Best Restaurants in Scottsdale – Virtu Honest Craft

Strangely enough, it took an out-of-town guest’s recommendation for me to finally visit Virtu Honest Craft in Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona. I feel like I’m slipping that it took me so long to try this amazing restaurant that had been garnering rave reviews locally and nationally.  And thank the Good Lord that my California-based business partner slapped me silly and convinced me to finally try it! It is simply of the best restaurants in Scottsdale.

To start, I absolutely love the quaint feel of the indoor space – classic, elegant, and textured. It was a perfect late afternoon, so we sat outside. I was greeted very warmly by both a server and the manager – another great and important start. Really sets the tone for the experience.

After a beer, I ordered a Tito’s Moscow Mule, which is generally my first cocktail in a bar for the sole reason that if a bar can’t make that cocktail, we’re in big trouble. But it was perfectly made, and if I weren’t driving, I would have had a few of them! Tell me this is not a perfect cocktail – even in the branded copper cup!

We then ordered two appetizers: Grilled Asparagus and Charred Octopus.  The Grilled Asparagus includes a Duck Egg, Bacon Candy, Feta, topped with Foie Gras Hollandaise – simply spectacular, a perfect blend of flavor and texture. Here it is, makes you want to eat your screen!

I would show you the Charred Octopus, but my guest rudely tore into it before I could take a quality picture.  But trust me, it was delicious. I loved the wonderful combination of Lemon Chick Peas, Arugula, Fennel, and Calbrian Chile Butter – mmmmmm.

We also had dinner, and my apologies, but my phone died. (Pathetic, I know.) I had the Fried Chicken and my friend had the Grilled Branzino – both spectacular.

In all, a top level experience – service, food, ambiance, and a real sense that “These people know what the hell they are doing,” which is my informal way of judging a restaurant. And it’s true, I highly recommend you find out for yourself and visit Virtu Honest Craft in Scottsdale.
