“My Rolex is a continual pleasure, and works admirably.” – Sir Winston Churchill
This quote perfectly captures how I feel about the Rolex watch brand. I’ve owned a few Rolexes over the years, and when Upscale Living Magazine asked me to write an article about luxury watches, I jumped at the chance to visit my local Rolex dealer – Hamra Jewelers in North Scottsdale – to view its extensive Rolex collection!
Hamra Jewelers
Hamra is family-owned and operated, and has been showcasing luxury jewelry and timepieces in Scottsdale since 1986. The showroom is located in North Scottsdale, Arizona (Google Maps), easily accessible from all parts of Phoenix, Scottsdale, and the surrounding areas.
Hamra features a dazzling array of jewelry and timepieces, featuring a number of luxury brands such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Breitling and TUDOR. Jewelry designers include Chalres Krypell, Jack Kelege, Tacori, Mikimoto, Phillips House and David Yurman. The lovely Hamra showroom:
Rolex – The Cellini Collection
Rolex is well known for its luxurious and classic Oyster Collection, which includes the famous Submariner, Datejust, Explorer, and Yacht-Master. But in visiting Hamra, I learned of the recently modernized Rolex Cellini Collection, described as “A Contemporary Celebration of Classicism and the Eternal Elegance of Traditional Timepieces.”
The Cellini Time Model
I first sampled the Cellini Time Model, with its simple and clean dial, and self-winding chronometer movement; featuring a polished finish and most lovely double bezel. The Time Model is available in 18ct White or Everose Gold, which is cast by Rolex in its own foundry in Geneva, Switzerland, and stitched Alligator Leather strap. It wears divinely.
The Cellini Rolex Prince
I then sampled the Cellini Rolex Prince, which is my favorite of the Cellini models that I wore. It’s exceedingly elegant, and wears beautifully – 18ct White Gold rectangular Art Deco-inspired case. The decorative technique employed is Guilloche (for more information on the technique, Click Here). You’ll notice that the dial presents time on two counters – one for the hours and the minutes, and the other for the seconds. My favorite characteristic of the Prince is the visibility of the movement through the transparent caseback.
The Cellini Dual Time
The last Cellini watch I sampled was the Cellini Dual Time model, which distinctively features two separate times, perfect for seasoned and itinerant travelers. Like most busy travelers, I often confuse myself in thinking of the different time zones for meetings, calls and emails. The Cellini Dual Time solves this problem.
Also, to differentiate between daytime and nighttime hours, a sun or moon symbol transits the aperture at 9 o’clock on the subdial. The hour hand can be set independently to easily adjust to a new time zone, without disturbing the functioning of the self-winding movement.
As with the Time Model, the Dual Time Model is available in 18ct White or Everose Gold, featuring a double bezel – one domed and the second delicately fluted; and also employing a Guilloche decorative technique. The Time Model also wears magnificently, providing the perfect complimentary and elegant accent to a dark suit with white shirt cuffs.
Closing Thoughts
There is something rewarding and satisfying about placing an elegant timepiece around your wrist, expertly positioning it, snapping the clasp, and then admiring how the watch completes your desired look. I know there are many brands of luxury timepieces, but I can remember being very young and seeing a sparkling Rolex on my uncle’s wrist and thinking, I am going to wear a Rolex one day.
Today, now that I wear a Rolex daily, I hope you find the same joy and satisfaction, and come to understand how owning a Rolex is “a continual pleasure.” I urge you to visit Hamra Fine Jewelers – either in person or online – to enjoy the superior service of a luxury jeweler that will guide you through the buying process, and serve as your lifetime partner for fine timepieces. You’ll thank me someday. 🙂
