Best Luxury Hotels in Hawaii – The Westin Maui Resort & Spa Ka’anapali

Life is an ocean and waves are our paths.” – Diana Matoso

Maui is a very special place, and this quote speaks to me as to why we are drawn to the beauty, serenity, peacefulness, and restorative energy of the ocean – that no matter where we are in our lives, the ocean shows us where we’ve been, and instills a gratitude that we’ll carry with us wherever we go.

It is with great gratitude and pleasure that I enjoyed this reflective moment while visiting The Westin Maui Resort & Spa Ka’anapali, and I now understand why the property’s tagline is “Where Heaven and Aloha Meet on Ka’anapali Beach.” The Westin Maui has most certainly earned its reputation for being one of the best luxury hotels in Hawaii.

Where is the Westin Maui Resort & Spa Ka’anapali?

The property is located on the Hawaiian Island of Maui, in its northwest corner in the resort community of Ka’anapali (Google Maps); easily accessible from all parts of Maui.

My Time at the Property

It’s important to note that I didn’t have the time to stay at the property, or to enjoy any of the property’s dining or spa options. This is common when I visit a place with a lot of resorts. So, since I only had a couple of hours, I walked the property to take in the scents, sights, smells, and feel of the resort – and it was resplendent. When I return to Maui, you can bet that I will certainly return for a long, lazy, sun-soaked stay.

Oceanview Suites

We enjoyed a lovely tour of the top floor of the property and one of the luxurious Oceanview Suites, with a spectacular and expansive view of the property and the ocean. Lovely and stunning.

The soft sea air blows across the balcony, and you stare at the trees, flowers, pools, and the ocean as if you’ve never seen anything so beautiful in your life.

The room is cleanly designed, with light and luxurious colors and textured appointments, and the artwork imparts the culture of Hawaii in the plush setting. The soaps and lotions are infused with a delightfully light white tea scent.

The Grounds

The property’s resort grounds are magnificent, and as you would expect are replete with pools, water features, dining options, art, and luxurious architectural designs.

The Ocean

While the property is astounding, this is the northwestern coast of Maui, and the ocean is the star of the show. The Westin’s architects deserve a lot of credit for creating clean sight lines and allowing the ocean to shine. It’s glorious, and I love how the resort accentuates the natural beauty of the ocean and the beach with minimal obstruction.

The Heavenly Spa

As I mentioned, I didn’t have the time to enjoy a spa treatment, but I always love to tour spas, and The Westin Maui’s Heavenly Spa does not disappoint.  I was extremely impressed with The Heavenly Spa, and it is most certainly on par with the other luxury spas I visited at other Hawaiian luxury hotels.

The entry is posh and sumptuous with clean design lines, generous amounts of glass and lovely natural wood. I loved the plunge pool, which is the sign of a very high end spa, and the common area relaxation room features extravagant artwork and furniture, and is positioned above the lower back resort area, wonderfully framing a most lovely and relaxing view. Love this.

The other special note to report on is the Westin “Well-Being Movement” which focuses on health and well-being for Westin guests. One of the coolest “Move Well” programs is the Westin’s “Gear Lending” partnership with New Balance, which allows Westin guests to use New Balance shoes and clothing for about $5.00/day for exercising. How cool is that? I hate packing my workout clothes, and sometimes it forces me to take an additional suitcase. Big thumbs-up to the Westin for this program!

Dining

As mentioned, I unfortunately didn’t have the time to dine on property, but the Westin Maui is filled with diverse high-quality dining options such as the Wailele Polynesian Luau, Relish Burger Bistro, Sea Dogs, and the ability to dine at the Westin’s two other local sister properties – The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas and the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa.

Closing Thoughts

It’s extremely difficult to visit a property for a couple of hours, and write an article that will help my readers learn all about that property. I try to include everything I can but I’m limited in time, I miss things, etc.

I think that the important takeaway from my visit to the Westin Maui is that I can’t wait to come back for a long stay. I’ll never forget walking along the beach, seeing the kids playing in the sand, and the parents relaxing and staring at the ocean; the message being that we all long to visit a place that will remind us of what matters, and how lucky we are to be surrounded by our loved ones, stare at the ocean, and wonder how the rest of our lives will unfold.

A visit to the Westin Maui Resort & Spa Ka’anapali will remind you that your life is an ocean. I promise.
