Bavarian Luxury – The Mandarin Oriental Munich

“The gladdest moment in human life, methinks, is a departure into unknown lands.” – Sir Richard Burton

Germany is one of the world’s most majestic countries, and Munich is its gift to global travelers of a window into the past and a masterful blend of the classic and the current. The luxurious Mandarin Oriental Munich is the only way to experience this mesmerizing city.

Here is a wonderful video showing much of the property:

Location

The Mandarin Oriental Munich is intimately positioned in Old Town Munich among the city’s historic architecture and charming streets and squares lined with shops and restaurants.

Entry

The hotel is supremely elegant, comfortable and inviting. Here are some images of mine, followed by an image courtesy of the hotel.

Accommodations

We had the pleasure of experiencing the Corner Suite, which is at the top floor at the property’s dramatic curved corner – featuring an expansive circular bedroom, living room with desk and sofa, Chinese art, walk-in shower and bath, walk-in wardrobe, and lush appointments. I’ve stayed at some of the most luxurious hotels in the world, and the Corner Suite is perhaps the most magnificent suite I’ve experienced.

Here is a brief Suite Tour:

Here are a couple of images of our suite, courtesy of the Mandarin Oriental Munich; simply regal, sublime, and resplendent. Notice the views of the city, the delicate appointments, and the drapery length. Now that is luxury. Wow.

Here are some views from our suite, and additional interior images:

Dining

The property’s Dining options are varied, flavorful and punctuated by the divine Matsuhisa Munich, offering Nobu Matsuhisa’s New Style Japanese-Peruvian cuisine. We enjoyed a multitude of succulent and inventive seafood dishes such as Aubergine Miso, Lobster Truffle Hobayaki, and Black Cod Miso. Matsuhisa Munich is a culinary experience to be savored and thoroughly enjoyed.

Here are some images of our lovely experience:

The hotel also offers a magnificent daily brunch with a staggering variety of hot and cold dishes, fresh-squeezed juices, and unique touches such as fresh honeycomb for your freshly baked bread.

The Terrace

As if the Mandarin Oriental Munich isn’t impressive enough, the hotel features a most impressive Rooftop Terrace with 360 degree views of Old Town Munich where guests may also enjoy cocktails. We enjoyed the Terrace immensely, just passing the hours by marveling at the rooftops and quiet passersby below. Another must-experience when you visit the hotel.

Neuschwanstein Castle

The famous Neuschwanstein Castle has been on my travel bucket list for many years, and this visit made that possible. The Castle is famous for a number of reasons, but one of the most notable is that Walt Disney modeled his Disney castles after it. The Castle is only about an hour outside of Munich, and was a lovely drive through green hills.

When you visit Munich, the Mandarin Oriental Munich offers a Fairytale Castle package that incorporates a visit to the Castle with your stay at the hotel; which I strongly recommend. The Castle is a marvel, and most certainly a must-visit when you are in Munich.

Closing Thoughts

The thrill of discovering the Mandarin Oriental Munich and its beautiful setting is one of my most memorable luxury travel experiences. I urge you to travel to Munich and to discover the property and area for yourself. The luxurious hotel is a European jewel set in a city rich in tradition and history. So book the Corner Suite, swing open the windows to Old Town Munich, and visit the Rooftop Terrace for a quiet cocktail. I promise you’ll wonder why it took you so long to visit.
